VALLE DEI MULINI (about 20 min. walk): You can get there from Piazza del Duomo through via Lorenzo d'Amalfi. Here are the old paper-mills among the first ones i Europe. Some of them produce the typical Amalfi paper called "carta a mano". PONTONE - MINUTO: They are wonderful hilly places. You can reach them by walking up a staircase from Valle dei Mulini. From Pontone you get to the ancient Torre dello Ziro where the queen Giovanna d'Aragona was imprisoned and later beheaded. Going ahead from Pontone to Minuto you find yourself in Scala which is linked to Amalfi by coach service. POGEROLA: It's a charming place very close to Amalfi. You can get there following 3 directions: 1) from Valle dei Mulini you can go up about a thousand steps passing through a magnificent valley; 2) going up a very steep staircase whose thousand steps begin on the Tunnel of Cappuccini and go along a deep valley called "Cieco"; 3) driving on a panoramic road which winds along two characteristic villages, Lone and Pastena. You should pay a visit to the old fortress "The Castle" which overlooks Amalfi and the whole coast from Capo d'Orso to Capo di Conca dei Marini. You can reach Pogerola from Amalfi by coach. VETTICA-LONE-PASTENA-TOVERE: They are pleasant hilly places. You can
reach them both threading through a carriageway and on foot through a
road called "via Maestra dei Villaggi". Once there, you find
yourself in the "Heaven beyond the sea" as the poet Longfellow
wrote, it is so peaceful and charming.
